A new media aide to President Muhammadu Buhari, Ms. Lauretta Onochie, has sensationally accused some PDP presidential aspirants of being behind the Fulani herdsmen killings in the Middle Belt of the country.
Onochie who tweets with the handle, @laurestar, alleged that things are suddenly quiet because “the sponsors of the Fulani herdsmen killings are preoccupied with a serious issue. They are jousting for the ticket for the candidacy of Nyesom Wike & Sons Lts, oops, PDP.” She then attached the photos of four PDP presidential aspirants all of whom belonged to the ruling APC until very recently.
Suddenly its all quiet.

Why It Matters:
Ms. Onochie is a presidential communications aide and her statements could be attributed to her employer. This is not the first time that the administration has alleged that politicians opposed to its agenda are behind the herdsmen-farmers crisis facing the country. A July statement by Presidential spokesperson, Garba Shehu, claimed that the Presidency has evidence that politicians are responsible for the killings. The Presidency offered no names in that statement.
Bottom line: The Presidency is yet to disown or condemn Ms. Onochie’s insensitive tweets. Endorsement perhaps?
