Hon. Yakubu Dogara, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, has been elected as the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) candidate for the House of Representative by the Bogoro/Dass/Tafawa-Balewa Federal Constituency.
Hon. Dogara was unanimously elected by 325 delegates from his constituency in Bauchi State on Wednesday. He was affirmed the sole candidate of the party following a unanimous voice vote in line with the constitutional provisions of the party regarding sole aspirants.
Dogara surreptitiously obtained his nomination form to run on the PDP platform without any formal announcement of his exit from the APC, a departure from the political norm.
Dogara is a sly fox. The ruling party will be seeking to take him out of his position as the speaker alongside the president of the senate, Bukola Saraki, who has also defected to the PDP and is vying for the party’s presidential ticket.
The APC chairman Adams Oshiomole, in a controversial statement, already addressed his Deputy, Yusuf Lasun as the Speaker during an August National Executive Council meeting. However, Dogara is yet to inform the House of his defection and stands on solid legal grounds for now.
Notwithstanding, the possibility of an impeachment — which the Speaker must have considered before defecting, the people of his constituency will be the ultimate deciders next year.
