The Ekiti State Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, has ordered the immediate dissolution of the boards of government agencies, parastatals, and corporations in the state.
Fayemi has ordered for chairmen of the boards’ agencies to hand over to the most senior officers within their respective agencies.
A statement by the Secretary to the State Government, Biodun Oyebanji, on Friday, said the dissolution does not affect the statutory boards.
“Government appreciates members of these boards for the services they have rendered to the state. The composition of new boards will be announced at a later date.” Oyebanji said.
Bottom line: Nothing unexpected there. There is hardly a new elected governor, especially one from a different party, who does not make this move. A lot of these board positions are given as reward to party members, so naturally, a new governor would want to remove loyalists of the ousted party and replace with those who worked for his own win.
