In the biggest upset of the elections so far, senate president Bukola Saraki lost his bid to return to the senate for a third term, losing to the APC’s Ibrahim Oloriegbe by a whopping 54,814 votes. The senate president polled 68,994 votes while Oloriegbe got 123,808 votes.
The senate president lost all four local government areas in the Kwara Central senatorial district to Oloriegbe who was making his third attempt to become senator. By the time the senate resumed from its recess next month, Saraki would have less than three months in the helm of the senate in what has been a very controversial time in office.
Similarly, the APC is leading in the presidential elections in Kwara state, a big blow for the chances of its candidate, Atiku Abubakar, who was hoping to ride on Saraki’s clout to flip the state to the PDP corner.
