Why INEC declared Ogun East senatorial district inconclusive

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared the election for Ogun East Senatorial District as inconclusive.

Backstory: The returning INEC officer for the senatorial district, Chris Onwuka, earlier canceled some results in Ajebandele ward in the Ijebu East axis because the total number of votes cast were more than the number of registered voters in the ward.

The officer in charge of the ward was not present at the collation center to clarify the inconsistency thereby leading to the decision by the returning officer to declare the election as inconclusive.

At the conclusion of collation of results from the nine local government areas, the All Progressives Congress had a total of 84,929 votes, while the Peoples Democratic Party polled 82,457 votes.

Nwoka was about to declare the APC senatorial candidate, Senator Mustapha Olalekan, the winner over his closest rival, Sosanwo Ayoola of the PDP when chaos erupted in the hall.

It has been reported that the inconsistency will be clarified in Abeokuta.
