The Imo state collation process has suffered a lot of setbacks in the past 24 hours.
- Agents of the leading political parties clashed over the result of Ideato South LGA. The PDP agent, Uche Onyeaguocha, tore the results sheet for the LGA after complaining that the state governor, Rochas Okorocha, chased every agent from the LG collation centre and wrote the result for his preferred candidate. He was however overruled by the returning officer, Francis Otunta, leading to his action. In reaction, another party agent rushed to the high table and tore result sheets of other LGAs that had earlier been collated. It caused tension in the centre as party agents, electoral officials, among others fled the venue. Policemen however quickly arrested the two agents.
- After the collation process resumed this morning, Francis Otunta, the returning officer orders the arrest of the collation officer for Ohaji Egbema local government area, Kelechi Thankgod, for allegedly altering the results of the LGA. Thankgod is a professor. The returning officer accused Thankgod of doctoring the results as they were different from what he had already seen from the field. In the result announced by Thankgod, the candidate of Action Alliance, Uche Nwosu got the highest score.
