Governor Gboyega Oyetola of Osun has said that his team has already appealed the recent judgment of the Election Petition Tribunal which ruled in favor of the PDP candidate, Ademola Adeleke
Per a statement from the Secretary to the State Government, Wole Oyebamiji: “As it is, the administration of His Excellency, Adegboyega Oyetola, Governor, State of Osun wishes to assure the people that the judgment of the Election Tribunal has been put on appeal.”
“The Government of the State is still the only legitimate government having the authority to govern the State,” the statement said. The Osun government further said “justice will prevail at last” and that “law enforcement agencies have been instructed to maintain law and order across the state.”
Backstory: The Osun State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Abuja on Friday declared Adeleke winner of the gubernatorial elections which held late in 2018. The three-member panel held that the rerun election that held on Sept. 27, 2018, was illegal. It deducted the votes scored by the two candidates in the rerun and allowed the original result to stand.
Bottom Line: This case is far from over. No matter who wins at the Appeal Court, there is no doubt the onus would eventually fall on the Supreme Court to give the final verdict.
