The Returning Officer in the supplementary elections held in Bauchi State, Professor Kyari Mohammed, Returning Officer, has announced Bala Mohammed of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the winner of the elections.
Backstory: According to him, the PDP candidate polled a total of 6,376 while the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Muhammed Abubakar, who is the incumbent governor polled 5,117.
Results available from 9 Local Governments show PDP leading in 6. The Returning Officer, has however, noted that he is in no position to make a return because the case involving the Tafawa Balewa LGA is still in court.
INEC had declared the exercise inconclusive after the margin between the two leading candidates was said to be less than the number of cancelled votes.
Bottomline: Abubakar becomes the first sitting governor to lose reelection in this cycle. In other results announced today, the governors of Plateau and Sokoto, Simon Lalong and Aminu Tambuwal both emerged victorious in the supplementary elections in their states. Tambuwal won with just 341 votes.
