A Federal High Court in Abuja has vacated the order it gave last week stopping the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from collating Tafawa Balewa Local Government Area election results for the Bauchi Governorship election.
At the resumed hearing on Monday, Justice Inyang Ekwo, declined jurisdiction on the matter.
Last Tuesday, he had ordered the halting of the collation following an ex parte application filed by the All Progressives Congress, APC and the incumbent governor of the state, Mohammed Abubakar, pending the determination of all issues raised in their application.
Consequently, even though the PDP candidate, Bala Mohammed, won the supplementary election on Saturday in the state, he could not be declared winner.
Bottom line: The ruling of the court is in order as issues concerning election outcome ought to be taken to the election petition tribunals which have already been set up. With the ruling today, Gov. Abubakar is now almost certainly going to lose reelection as the PDP’s Mohammed has the majority of votes.
