Abdulmuminin Jibrin, the lawmaker representing Bebeji/Kiru Federal Constituency of Kano State in the House of Representatives, has expressed confidence that his colleague, Femi Gbajabiamila, will emerge as the next Speaker of the House.
- “I am not afraid. I have said it repeatedly and you can take this to the bank inshallah (God willing) Femi (Gbajabiamila) is going to be the Speaker. It is as good as that,” he said in an interview.
“Just a few months ago, both the APC and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) zoned the presidential slot to the northern part of the country and of course the vice-presidential slot to the southern part of the country.”
“They all supported it. We all applauded. Everybody supported it, all of them one after the other. Now a few months after, they are saying we don’t want to zone. So what does that tell you? Is it all about self?” Jibrin stated.
Flashback: Four years ago, the ruling APC similarly adopted the duo of Gbajabiamila who represents Surulere I Federal Constituency of Lagos State as Speaker and Senator Ahmed Lawan as Senate President respectively. However both lost to Yakubu Dogara and Bukola Saraki respectively in a blow to the APC leadership.
- The party’s National Chairman, Adams Oshiomhole, has stated that the APC has learned from its mistakes and will prevent a recurrence of the incident.
- And so has APC National Leader, Bola Tinubu, who warned those against the party’s position to fall in line or leave.
