The Bauchi State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Friday filed a petition at the Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal challenging the outcome of the governorship election in which its candidate and the incumbent governor, Mohammed Abubakar, lost to the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) Bala Mohammed.
Backstory: Abubakar had conceded defeat and congratulated the governor-elect after the results of the rerun elections were announced by the Independent Electoral National Commission. But he told party supporters that he changed his mind and decided to contest the results following a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari and the leadership of the APC.
What next: It’s up to the tribunal now. The APC Chairman, Uba Nana, disclosed that the party has filed a formal complaint already.
- “What we want is justice, as always, from the court because we know that the court will do just that,” he said.
