Festus Keyamo, the spokesman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign, has said that the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal will only deliver judgments based on the provisions of the Electoral Act and not videos circulating on social media.
Keyamo’s statements were made in response to this video which showed an officer of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) saying that the Commission had planned to transmit results of the 2019 elections electronically.
What Keyamo said: He said while INEC may have planned to transmit the results electronically, what matters most is if it actually did.
Backstory: The petition challenging Buhari’s victory was filed by the Peoples Democratic Party and its presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.
The petition claimed that some ad hoc staff and other INEC officials, relying on INEC’s training/instruction had transmitted the scores they got from the polling units to INEC server.
Atiku and PDP listed 13 of such ad hoc staff of INEC who all testified that they, indeed, uploaded results from their polling units to the INEC server as instructed during their training.
INEC has however dismissed Atiku’s claims as false, saying the results which were supposedly uploaded to the server were fabricated.
