Buhari’s district head kidnapped in Daura

Alhaji Musa Umar, the district head of Daura (President Muhammadu Buhari’s hometown) has been kidnapped by four unidentified gunmen.

Umar’s abduction is only the recent case in a series of kidnaps that have plagued the country in recent times with security agencies unable to bring under control.

Details: The kidnappers were reported to have raided Umar’s residence on Wednesday while sporadically shooting into the air.

An eye witness told the News Agency of Nigeria that the kidnappers took Umar while he was sitting outside his home after evening prayers.

Backstory: Just on Monday, the chairman of the Universal Basic Education Commission, Dr. Mohammad Mahmood Abubakar and his daughter, Yasmin, were kidnapped while traveling along the Abuja-Kaduna highway. Abubakar’s driver was killed by the gunmen.

Both Abubakar and his daughter were released the following day after ransom was paid to the gunmen.

It’s been reported that between January and April, at least 685 persons were kidnapped across the country.
