The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has demanded that the President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Zainab Bulkachuwa, recuses herself from the Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal.
Backstory: The PDP made this demand in a petition, dated May 8, which was signed by its National Chairman, Uche Secondus, and its National Secretary, Senator Umaru Tsauri.
A copy of the petition sent was received at the office of the Court of Appeal President in Abuja on Thursday.
- The PDP explained that it is demanding Bulkachuwa to withdraw from the panel because of an alleged connection with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
- The PDP also highlighted that Bulkachuwa’s husband, Adamu Bulkachuwa, contested the Bauchi North Senatorial District election in February and won on the platform of the APC.
For the aforementioned reasons, the PDP is concerned about the possibility of bias and has insisted that Justice Bulkachuwa withdraws from the panel of the court sitting over its petition.
