Delta North Senator Peter Nwaoboshi already has a couple of fraud related cases he is having to answer to. This month, a Special Presidential Investigation Panel for the Recovery of Public Property recommended that Nwaoboshi be prosecuted yet again by the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) of the Federal Ministry of Justice, Etsu Umar.
The panel’s case against Nwaoboshi:
- The panel which is led by Okoi Obono-Obla wrote a letter to the DPP saying that Nwaoboshi “is under investigation before us for possession of suspicious assets far and beyond his legitimate earnings.”
- However, according to the letter, Nwaoboshi has refused to declare his assets before the panel despite their demands. It is on the basis of his refusal that the panel is calling for his prosecution which, it says, violates Section 3(i)(a) of the Recovery of Public Property (Special Provisions) Act 2004.
- “It shall be appreciated if a charge is brought against him for his offence pending the conclusion of the investigation,” the letter read.
The letter was dated June 7, 2019, and it was accompanied by other documents in Nwaoboshi’s case file.
