Diezani to forfeit $40m worth of jewelry to FG

A Federal High Court in Lagos has ordered the confiscation of another round of properties belonging to former minister of petroleum resources, Diezani Allison-Madueke.

Backstory:

  • Just two months ago, Allison-Madueke suffered another loss in a Lagos court which ordered the interim forfeiture of two houses in Lagos and Port Harcourt.
  • A Lagos Division of the Federal High Court on August 22, 2017, ordered the interim forfeiture of 56 houses valued at $22 million allegedly bought between 2011 and 2013.
  • Another Lagos Division of the Federal High Court on 8th September 2017 ordered the final forfeiture of four properties in Lagos and Rivers states as well as in Abuja valued at N2.6 billion.

And the above forfeitures are not exhaustive.

This time around it is her jewelry that has been confiscated based on a ruling by Justice Nicholas Oweibo following an ex-parte motion filed by Rotimi Oyedepo, counsel to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). The jewelry is valued at about $40 million.

It comprised luxury items such as bangles, earrings, wristwatches, necklaces, bracelets, a customised gold iPhone, among others.

Bottomline: While the former minister continues to reside in the United Kingdom, she has become the gift that keeps on giving, suffering loss after loss in Nigerian courts following her controversial tenure in the Nigerian government.
