Slapping Sen. Abbo arraigned by police; granted bail for N5m

Senator Elisha Abbo, who represents Adamawa North Senatorial District in the Senate, was granted bail after being arraigned by the police on Monday on allegations of assault.

He has been in the eye of the storm, especially on social media, with many calling for his prosecution for physically assaulting a pregnant woman in a sex toy shop.

The bail application was granted by Senior Magistrate Abdullahi Ilellah of the Zuba Magistrate Court, Abuja, Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Details:

One of the conditions for his N5 million bail was that he provides sureties with verifiable addresses within the Federal Capital Territory.

The young senator’s arraignment was as a result of a leaked video of him assaulting a woman. He was subsequently charged on Monday in a suit which featured a one-count charge of assault which he promptly pleaded not guilty to.

Bottomline:While the senator has apologised in a video release, the public have said that apologies are not enough. The Senate has also set up a committee to investigate him. The case is adjourned to July 22nd for further hearing.
