Kidnap kingpin, Alhaji Hamisu Wadame was freed in controversial circumstances after Army personnel attacked and killed three policemen (and a civilian) who had captured him last week.
It gets ugly: Per reporting by New Telegraph, we learnt that:
- Wadume has officials of the Army on his payroll. A source told the newspaper that the kidnap kingpin’s men had contacted an Army Captain in 93 Batallion immediately their boss was arrested.
- “The wanted kidnap suspect has been generous to the soldiers in Ibi. It was Hamisu who allegedly paid a ransom of N1.5 million when one of the soldiers was kidnapped few months ago.”
- The underlying motive of the attack on the policemen was simply to free Wadume, as the slain officers provided identification.
- Contrary to the statement by the Army feigning ignorance of the mission, the slain police personnel informed the soldiers of their mission.
Watch out: The both security outfits have mandated their personnel to recapture the kidnapper as a matter of top priority. However, there might be various underlying motives to this. The Police is looking for answers and will want to capture Wadame alive while some officers in the Army will be looking to silence him to prevent the embarrassment his revelations might cause.
